ArORA

The Arctic Ocean Regional Alliance (ArORA) is a proposed alliance to improve coordination of ocean observing in the Arctic region. The Arctic is one of the few regions of the world without a dedicated GOOS Regional Alliance, and thus (in situ) ocean observing activities there are largely fragmented with many different platform or thematic-based networks, national and regional activities. Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks (SAON) is the international body working to coordinated Arctic observing (including ocean and all other domains).

The ArORA Task Team was set up in 2023 to lead work towards a GOOS Regional Alliance (GRA) or similar for the Arctic. The Task Team is endorsed by the GOOS Steering Committee and the SAON Board, and the G7 FSOI has made high level recommendations in support of its work.
