Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center (NERSC)

The Nansen Environmental and Remots Sensing Center is an independent non-profit research foundation conducting climate and environmental research with focus on marine and polar environment. A main objective for the Center is to develop operational oceanography, including use of satellite observations, in situ observations, numerical modeling and data assimilation. The chair of Arctic ROOS is Stein Sandven, research director at the Nansen Center, which hosts the secretariat for Arctic ROOS.

The Nansen Center, in collaboration with Met.no and IMR, runs the Arctic component of the Copernicus  Marine Environmental Monitoring Service (CMEMS), which is the main contributor to operational ocean monitoring and forecasting (http://cmems.met.no).  The Nansen Center is also developing satellite monitoring montoring systems for sea ice and ocean variables, such as harmul algal blooms (http://hab.nersc.no) as shown below:
